Chronic diseases in childhood present tremendous challenges for patients, families and medical professionals. At the Center for Chronically Sick Children at Charité we offer the largest, most comprehensive diagnostic, treatment, and support center within all of Germany.
Our outpatient setting allows us to provide supportive benefits for patients and families coming to work with our interdisciplinary teams. Each patient is assessed and assigned a multi-professional team that draws from the depth and breadth of our medical specialties. These include pediatricians with sub-specialty training, child psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, specialists for phoniatrics, orthopedic surgeons, pediatric neurosurgeons, maxillofacial surgeons, and specialist therapists (physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, dieticians). Our position within the Charité network allows our patients also to draw upon the expertise of other hospitals and institutes with further advanced clinical and research experiences.
Since the chronic illnesses or handicaps of our patients affect the entire family, we have social workers, nurses and specialists for various technical aids who provide education and guidance for patients and families. Additionally, they provide contact with support groups and parent associations - all with the goal of best facilitating an independent and fulfilling life for our patients.
